Community Advisory Board Guidelines

Welcome to the Community Advisory Board Guidelines Webpage. The Guidelines were created by the Community Engagement Core for the Center for Indigenous Environmental Health Research. We are excited that you are visiting our webpage and we hope that the Guidelines will be a useful resource for your projects that involve Community Advisory Boards (CABs).

We created the Guidelines to improve the effectiveness of involving CABs in community-engaged research. Given the few existing resources and tools accessible to both researchers and community members, our goal was to create a set of Guidelines that academic-community partnerships could tailor to their specific projects. The Guidelines consist of three sections: formation, operation, sustainability and evaluation. Each section includes best practices and interactive worksheets to facilitate CAB decision-making and planning.

To access the Guidelines, we invite you to participate in a study to help us improve the development and implementation of the Guidelines. If you agree to participate in the study, you will be asked to answer two short surveys. The first survey will ask about you, your project and your prior familiarity with Community Advisory Boards. After you’ve downloaded our guidelines, we will follow up with you to complete a second survey about your experiences using the Guidelines. Each survey should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. Your responses will be kept confidential.
