Steve Hadeed

My name is Steve Hadeed, I am currently a PhD student in Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Arizona and working on the Hopi Environmental Health Project (HEHP). I am born and raised in Arizona, and have been at the University of Arizona for over 10 years where I earned both my Bachelors of Science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology.

I have worked on the HEHP since the start and my primary role has focused on the environmental monitoring aspect of the study, developing protocols and training field technicians to operate field monitors, and database management of environmental data. Working on this project has been a rewarding experience that has allowed me to see first-hand how community-based participatory research projects and environmental health field studies are carried out, and demonstrated to me the importance of community partnerships. Seeing the progression of this study from the early planning and development stages, to the implementation and full on data collection has been a fulfilling experience. Throughout this process, we have encountered several challenges, but working with the Hopi team members and fellow students we have learned how to overcome these challenges together and this is something I have come to enjoy about working on this team-based project.
