Julie Mattes

Hello, my name is Julie Mattes. I graduated from the University of Arizona from the College of Public Health in May of 2018. I am originally from Illinois and moved to Goodyear, Arizona right before I started high school. I chose the University of Arizona because I love watching a good college basketball game and I enjoyed the community feeling the University has. In the fall, I will be attending American International College in Massachusetts to further my education to obtain my doctorate in Physical Therapy.

I was beyond blessed to be able to work alongside Mary Kay O’Rourke on her environmental health project on the Hopi Indian Reservation. This project has impacted myself in multiple ways. This has allowed me to health educate high school students and was given the ability to enhance my public speaking skills in front of various groups of people. I currently work at OrthoArizona in Phoenix as a physical therapy technician and I am efficient on communicating with the patients and educating them how certain exercises are beneficial to their injuries.

I graduated Cum Laude from the University of Arizona and maintained a high-grade point average all throughout my time there. I completed two presentations for this project. I did a power point on radon exposure on the Hopi Indian Reservation and I did a power point on the connection of lung disease on the Hopi Indian Reservation. Overall, this project has influenced myself in several ways and I enjoyed every moment I spent working on the project.
