Josue Barboza

My name is Josue Barboza and I am from Tucson, AZ. I graduated from the University of Arizona in May of 2019 with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Public Health. During my undergraduate studies, I focused my education towards environmental health to better understand the scope between environmental pollutants and human health. The Hopi Health Project gave me the opportunity to practice public health etiquette, which has opened a lot of other opportunities. While working on the project, I was able to learn a variety of skillsets from other public health professionals to know how to successfully promote healthy alternatives. I created infographics, lectures, interactive worksheets, and collected data for Hopi high students to bring awareness of the negative health implications of high concentration levels in drinking water. After completing my time, I was inspired to continue my studies at Arizona State University to obtain a Masters in Geographic Information Sciences (GIS). I am currently learning how to create pleasing geographic visuals and how to analyze spatial data, which will later help me achieve a profession as a Geospatial Analyst within the public health sector. The Hopi Health Project did indeed motivate me, and I am truly grateful for that.
